Learn fundamental skills and get valuable tips carefully tailored to improve your productivity and results during your time at Langara and for your future workplace experience.

These workshops will be offered in-person or online through Zoom and are free for Langara students to attend. No registration is required, but be respectful of the time of others and please arrive to the online workshop on time.

Your Smartphone, Your Health and Your IQ (20 minutes)

Description: This workshop focuses on the most recent scientific studies examining the relationship between the use of smartphones, social media and all Wifi-based devices – and their impact on mental and physical health, and IQ (especially school performance).

Career Exploration through Active Engagement – Come and join us for 90 minutes of fun for an engaging session of career exploration. You will be asked to reflect on your experiences from the positive psychology perspective. Dynamic self-exploration techniques will be introduced. You will also participate in an online self-assessment and watch a video of an information interview. The concept of positive uncertainty and planned happenstance will be explored to help your career decision-making. Finally, we will finish with a poem written by a UBC professor to showcase his career development.

Concentration & Mastery Learning – This workshop focuses on the latest research findings with respect to student attitudes to learning goals and ability (or ‘intelligence’). Students are given specific techniques (e.g. Mastery Learning) that can enhance focus and concentration, leading to a significant increase in academic performance.

How to Learn Biology – This workshop will cover the latest research in the field of biology learning and focus on the most effective learning and study strategies for biology courses.

How to Learn Math & Physics – This workshop will cover the latest research on the most effective learning and study strategies for math and physics courses; study and learning strategies for other lab courses and computer science will also be discussed.

Improve Your Thinking, Improve Your GPA – This workshop will introduce students to styles of thinking that can help improve grades. Examples of techniques used will be the S.I.P.A.R. method, thinking strategies (such as the use of analogies for learning difficult concepts), and the Big Picture-Details technique.

Meditation Techniques for Higher Grades – This workshop will examine three of the most effective meditation (e.g. focused awareness, mindfulness) and emotional management strategies that improve your GPA. Students will also be introduced to the impact of Growth Mind strategies and their potential for expanding brain capacity.

Super Learning Strategies for Better Grades – This workshop introduces students to the latest techniques for Superlearning to achieve higher grades such as the Rose & Nicholl 6-step Plan, the Deporter Quantum Learning System, and the Ehrenburg Technique.
