The UBC Department of Microbiology and Immunology and the Biotechnology Program at BCIT offer a five-year joint Bachelor of Science (BSc) degree with an Honours in Biotechnology.

  • Enrolment is limited, therefore meeting the minimum requirements does not guarantee admission. Entry into the specialization is at the second-year level and requires completion of the first-year prerequisites listed below. Therefore, Langara students are strongly encouraged to apply to the program once they near completion of the following first-year prerequisites.

Footnotes:

1 A total of 6 credits are required to meet the Communication Requirement

2 Langara BIOL 1115 & 1215 exempts students from UBC BIOL 111, 121, 140; both Langara BIOL courses must be taken for exemption. UBC BIOL 140 is a prerequisite for many upper-level BIOL courses at UBC. Langara BIOL 2370 precludes credit for UBC BIOL 112

3 Students must take one differential calculus course during first year of studies at UBC. UBC MATH 110 (Langara MATH 1153 & 1253) may substitute for any of the specified calculus courses listed by decreasing the electives by 3 credits

4Students require 3 credits of 100-level PHYS beyond UBC PHYS 100 (Langara PHYS 1118). Students lacking Physics 12 must take UBC PHYS 100 in first year. Another 3 credits of PHYS may be taken at any time during the specialization but PHYS 100 must be taken during first year. Langara course options include: PHYS 1101 exempts students from UBC PHYS 101, PHYS 1125 = UBC PHYS 117, PHYS 1219 = UBC PHYS 170

5 Electives must be selected to ensure that the Arts Requirement and Science Breadth Requirement are met
