Is campus closed?

Langara’s homepage is the official source for college closure announcements.

Look for an alert banner at the top of the page. If there is no alert banner, the college is open during normally scheduled hours.

Langara College considers many factors when deciding to physically close the College, and we have plans in place to ensure a timely and coordinated response to inclement weather. In the event of a campus or College-wide closure, Langara will inform the community prior to 6:30 am for morning/daylong closures, 11:30 am for afternoon closures, and 3:30 pm for evening closures.

Following a closure announcement, we will update website information by 4:00 pm on the same day to indicate a closure the following day or to advise people to check back the following morning for further updates.

Unexpected campus closures and other emergency messages will also be shared through:

  • Langara Safe App AlertsDownload the Langara Safe app on Apple iTunes orGoogle Play store to receive email and/or text message notifications.
  • Social media : A message will be posted to Langara’s official social media Twitter accounts: @langaracollege on Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook.
  • Local media: Langara will send an advisory to local radio and TV stations CKNW 980 (AM) and News AM 1130 (AM).
  • Telephone : A message will be recorded on Langara’s general phone line (604-323-5511).

What to know about campus closures

In the event the college closes due to inclement weather, employees and students will be asked not to travel to the campuses in an abundance of caution.

  • Employees working remotely will continue as a regularly scheduled day.
  • Employees who were scheduled to physically attend a campus will work remotely where possible. Speak with your supervisor for direction.
  • Classes that are online will continue as a regularly scheduled day.
  • Instructors will contact students regarding classes that were scheduled to be on campus.

What happens if the campus is open, but I'm unable to travel due to severe weather conditions in my area?

Langara's students come from a large geographic area, and our decision considers our diverse population carefully. It is ultimately the responsibility of each individual to make decisions about what's safe for them. If this means you are unable to travel to your class, please notify your instructor as soon as possible about your attendance.
