Important information:
ALL TESTS will be administered on campus, IN PERSON starting Fall 2023 semester.
The Statistics Diagnostic Test (SDT) is part of the assessment process designed to identify the statistics course that is most appropriate in view of a student's background, current abilities, and future needs. The SDT is applicable only to Langara College courses and programs.
- Statistics Test (covers arithmetic and lines) if you want to take STAT 1124 or PSYC 2321 or KINS 2206. (This test is NOT for Stat 1181, which requires Calculus as a co- or pre-requisite.)
Who needs to take SDT?
Generally, students wishing to take the following courses will write the SDT if they do not have the specified high school prerequisites from a BC high school within the last three years:
- STAT 1124 or PSYC 2321 or KINS 2206
Students from out-of-province or those who have been away from mathematics for three or more years must write the SDT to assess their level of preparedness.
Students with the following prerequisites taken in BC (“recent” means within the past three years) do not need to write the SDT:
- a recent C grade (or better) in Precalculus 11 or Foundations of Math 11 and wanting STAT 1124 or PSYC 2321 or KINS 2206
These secondary school course descriptions do not include Intro Math 11, Math 11A, Essentials of Math, or Applications of Math courses. Students having such courses must write the SDT.
