The bulk of conference season just wrapped up for us at Langara Recreation Studies, with RFABC and BCRPA conferences happening in the last week of April and the first week of May. It was great to connect with old colleagues and meet new connections during the 6 days of conference. The days were filled with seeing and hearing about some really great work that’s happening across BC in the recreation sector! It’s been a really busy April, with final exams, final papers, as well as the end internships for students. We had our Recreation Luncheon, where many recreation professionals and industry supporters come to Langara and have lunch with us. The internship students had an opportunity to thank their agency supervisors, and the faculty had a chance to connect with the industry.

The Canadian Parks and Recreation Association conference is happening this week, and afterwards, with just one more conference happening on May 16, we’re looking forward to heading into the summer months. Summer is a time for renewal for the department as most faculty focus on sprucing up their courses and exploring new teaching technologies.

To round-up all the excitement in the last 2 weeks, what was also incredibly amazing during the conference weeks was to see Sandip Gill and Korine Hawsby recognized in front of over 300 delegates at the BCRPA conference. Both of our students won the DB Perks BCRPA scholarship! Congrats to them both.
