Areas of Interest

  • Mikaela is passionate about learning how we can improve and maintain our health and wellness over our entire lifespan. This concept is known as a person's healthspan.
  • In clinical practice, Mikaela cares for clients through a biopsychosocial framework. She works collaboratively with clients and creates an individualized approach best suited to the client's lifestyle.
  • Mikaela believes successful rehabilitation is anchored by an individual's goals, promotes injury management, requires consistency, and ultimately improves health. 
  • Her work in private practice as a physiotherapist includes orthopedics, pelvic health, and oncology. 

 

Academic / College / Community / Research 

  • Mikaela thrives in a teaching environment where she has the opportunity to share knowlege, support goal-oriented behaviour change, and provide tools to improve health proactively.
  • Mikaela works as a physiotherapist in Burnaby and operates a sole-proprietorship
  • Mikaela is active in the local community and has developed pateint resources for BC Cancer Agency in Vancouver and West End Medicine & Ostomy Care Centre in New Westminster. These resources aim to optimize life beyond cancer, recovery post ostomy surgery, and return to activities of daily living without limitations.

Sport / Activity Background / Hobbies

  • Mikaela is a competitive marathon runner and has completed the 2023 Boston Marathon, finishing in the top 6% of female runners.
  • Mikaela enjoys exploring the North Shore mountains on her road bike, visiting coffee shops and bakeries around the city, and adventuring to local trails with her husband, Stephen, and their dog, Reese.
