Danielle is a Registered Dietitian and a new instructor at Langara. She has been working in food service management for 10 years since her graduation from the University of British Columbia, and internship with Northern Health Authority in British Columbia. She is very passionate about hospital food services and advancing the industry so patients can recover quickly, and to get rid of the pesky perception that hospital food is terrible. She is also a member of the Preceptor Education Committee at UBC which strategizes how to best support supervisors of dietetics students in providing excellent hands-on education. In her spare time, she is an avid reader and loves to experiment with new recipes.
Stephanie is a passionate Registered Dietitian with 14 years of work experience providing leadership in the food industry and healthcare setting. She is skilled at translating complicated food science into practical advice for diverse audiences. At General Mills Canada, she represented iconic brands such as Fibre 1, Nature Valley and Libérté while ensuring that nutrition messages aligned with internal policies and brand identities. Stephanie spearheaded a food and culinary education program at Princess Margaret Cancer Centre, Canada’s renowned oncology hospital. She also owns a small wellness business teaching yoga and Pilates. Stephanie holds a Master of Health Science in Nutrition Communications from Ryerson University and a Bachelor of Sciences in Human Nutrition and Dietetics from McGill University.
Charles completed his dietetics degree at the University of British Columbia in June 2014. He completed his internship with Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH) and since completing his internship, he has been working as a clinical dietitian at VGH. He currently working as an outpatient dietitian with the Leukemia/Bone Marrow Transplant Program of BC. Charles also completed his master's in health administration in 2020 with research focusing on the organizational structure of clinical dietitian services. He brings more than 6 years of acute clinical experience as well as food service experience as a diet technician and food service supervisor to Langara as a new instructor. In his spare time, Charles is either playing tennis or is baking a cake for one of his clients.
Ghazal is a Registered Dietitian who completed her dietetics degree at the University of British Columbia in June 2015 including an internship with Island Health. For most of her career, she has worked in hospital settings including acute settings, long-term care, and outpatients. Aside from being an instructor, she currently works as a clinical dietitian at BC Women's Hospital. She also completed her Master's in Business Administration degree in 2020, which enhanced her leadership skills and provided a change in perspective in looking at any problem or situation! Outside of work, she enjoys hiking, exploring the outdoors, and baking.
Laila graduated from the University of British Columbia with a Bachelor’s degree in Food, Nutrition and Health, majoring in Dietetics in 2007. She has worked for Fraser Health Authority for a decade in fields of medicine, diabetes (pediatric and adult) and is currently a renal dietitian for the hemodialysis program. Laila is registered with the College of Dietitians of BC and a proud member of the Dietitians of Canada. She is also a clinical instructor at the University of British Columbia and a certified nutrition support clinician granted by the American Society for Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition.
Being in the hospital industry for so long has led Laila to believe that food is better used to prevent disease than to cure it. Laila believes in the famous quote by Hippocrates, “Let thy Food be your medicine”. With more and more research supporting that food can prevent and treat disease, Laila’s philosophy of using food as a weapon to promote health helps patients establish healthy goals. She believes that small changes lead to compounding results! Laila enjoys cooking, and if she ever has spare time, she will post pictures of her home-made meals on Instagram or blog about the difficulties of following a diet at dietitianonadiet.com.
Laila joined Langara in Spring 2020, teaching Nutrition 1100. She is hoping to inspire students to a life-long exposure to healthy eating and making food fun!
Shane had a curiosity for the kitchen from an early age which eventually led him to study the culinary arts at Humber College; there he learned what a Registered Dietitian was a soon after he completed a BASc in Applied Human Nutrition at the University of Guelph, followed by an internship with Sunnybrook Health Sciences. Shane works in foodservice management and is involved with aspects such as human resources, menu development, and nutritional assessments. He is also a Clinical Instructor with UBC and has had experiences in residential care and support services management. Cooking is still a passion, butter is used when needed, but a balanced approach is taken most of the time. When not working, Shane is busy keeping up with three children with his wife in Victoria.
Jenni has been a Registered Dietitian since completing her Dietetics degree at UBC and her internship with Vancouver Coastal Health in 2012. She has worked in a variety of acute care settings and is currently working as a Clinical Dietitian on the Neurosciences unit at Vancouver General Hospital. She began her role as an instructor with the Nutrition & Food Service Management department in 2021. Outside of work, Jenni loves to experiment in the kitchen by trying out new dishes and baked goods and enjoys outdoor activities such as biking, volleyball, hiking, and camping.
Rob has been teaching at Langara College since 2018. He is a Registered Dietitian originally from Edmonton where he took a BSc in Food and Nutrition Sciences at the University of Alberta. His appetite for evidence-based medicine and scientific recommendation led him to pursue a Master’s Degree on the impact of nutrition and fitness on health. He is a member of the College of Dietitians of BC and Dietitians of Canada. Rob thrives on continuously learning and working in a variety of capacities in the dietetic field. His work experience spans various areas of health care such as community care, residential care, private practice, and administration.
After completing her bachelor's and master's degrees at Laval University, Gen pursued her interest in the field of eating disorders. She worked as a registered dietitian in a clinic specialized in the treatment of a variety of eating disorders in Washington State. During that time, she fostered her enthusiasm for sports nutrition and completed the International Olympic Committee Sports Nutrition Diploma.
Outside of her work as a nutrition instructor, she works as a sports dietitian with elite athletes at Canadian Sport Institute Pacific where she supports many national teams, including freestyle disciplines, ski cross, softball, and luge as well as many provincial teams. When not teaching or working with athletes, Gen is most often in the outdoors skiing, hiking, backpacking, rock climbing, or biking.
Monica has been teaching at Langara College since 2003 and is currently the Assistant Department Chair of the Nutrition Deparment. As a Registered Dietitian, she has worked in acute clinical dietetics, long term care – both in the clinical areas and as an administrative RD, and in the nutritional care of children. Monica was involved in the GNS Dietetic Internship Program and was the coordinator of the Langara Dietetic Internship program for its first years.
Gaya Murthy has been a Registered Dietitian for over 15 years and is currently the Department Chair of the Nutrition Department. She is registered with the College of Dietitians of British Columbia and a member of Dietitians of Canada. She joins Langara with numerous years of experience in clinical, community, academic, and research settings. Gaya is passionate about nutrition education in both formal and informal settings. Her specific interests lie in the role of nutrition in chronic disease prevention, health promotion and public health. Gaya also works as a Public Health Dietitian within Fraser Health Authority. She is also a Clinical Faculty at the University of British Columbia and a Certified Diabetes Educator granted by the Canadian Diabetes Educator Certification Board. In her spare time, she volunteers in local schools, teaching food skills and nutrition to young children.
Rebekah has been teaching at Langara College since 2017. She is a Registered Dietitian who completed her Masters of Applied Nutrition at the University of Guelph in 2013. Rebekah brings her experience across clinical, research, and sports nutrition settings. Her most recent sports nutrition work has been with the BC Lions Football Club.
Nadia is a graduate of McGill University. As a Registered Dietitian, she has had the privilege of working at BC Children's Hospital at the Centre for Healthy Weights - Shapedown, at BC Cancer Agency in the Diet and Breast Cancer Prevention Trial and in the communities of Surrey/Delta/White Rock coordinating the Healthiest Babies Possible Program. She maintains a small private practice as a consulting dietitian with one of her longstanding clients, the Squamish Nation community. Besides her love for teaching, she likes to cook for her family and friends and being active around Metro Vancouver.
Tiffany has been a clinical registered dietitian for over 10 years working in acute, outpatient, and long-term care in Canada and the UK. She obtained her Bachelor’s degree in Dietetics from the University of British Columbia and her Master’s degree in Nutritional Medicine from the University of Surrey in the UK. Her Master’s degree covered topics from basic nutrition principles to advanced sports nutrition. She also conducted laboratory research focusing on the effect of obesity and omega-3 fatty acids on human gut hormone responses.
