Soroptimist Award Winners

Vancouver BC – Seven Langara School of Nursing students received Helen McCrae awards from the Soroptimist International’s Vancouver Club (SIV) on May 31, 2015.

Claude Painter, Langara Board Member congratulated Marli Cashe, Christina Larsen, Victoria Adams, Kim Smart, Lea Felipe, Victoria Groff, and Sherry Chua on their awards, “Congratulations to one and all, and thank you and the faculty referees for helping us distribute and retrieve the applications.”

The Helen McCrae Award is in memory of one of the long-time members of Soroptimist International, who was a strong advocate for women's education. Each of the winners were selected based on key criteria including a minimum GPA of 3.0 in a Nursing Program, demonstration of leadership skills, and a strong ability to put theory into practice.

“I feel so blessed and thankful to have received the Helen McCrae Award, says Kim Smart, Langara term 5 nursing student. “At the award luncheon ceremony I was able to learn more about the Soroptimist International Club and the many wonderful projects they are involved in and support. It was a great afternoon where I truly felt encouraged and supported by the gracious Soroptimist sisters I met there.”
