GEOG 1195: Introduction to Physical Geography (non-lab)

Weather photo

Have you looked at the sky and wonder what kind of clouds are up there?

How is weather different than climate?

To what extent is our climate system in trouble?

Have you wondered what type of rock or landform they are when you are out on a trip?

How does climate relate to different types of vegetations around the world?

If you have asked yourself any of the above questions, then Geography 1195 will answer them and more! In this course, you will get an overview of the physical world that we live in. We will explore the processes involved in shaping our planet Earth, allow students to appreciate our living world both above and below us.

Over the course of the semester, students will:
1) develop an understanding of the Earth system as studied in physical geography, including the processes, flows of energy, and inter-relationships between the atmosphere, lithosphere, hydrosphere, and biosphere.
2) display, analyze, and interpret geographic data.
3) apply geographic knowledge to local and global examples in physical geography.
4) explore how humans impact the Earth system.
5) utilize a number of basic geographic instruments.
