Michiko Araki - Bachelor of Recreation Management

Langara College Graduate Excellence Award (Bachelor’s Degree)

Michiko is graduating from Langara with the highest cumulative grade point average (GPA) in a bachelor’s degree program. The perseverance, drive, and focus that she had to maintain throughout her studies has helped to prepare her for future challenges. Her fondest memory of Langara was completing her co-op work term where she was able to gain industry-specific knowledge that helped her to land a permanent position within her field, even before graduation. She is excited to help the community through recreation and continue to grow as an individual.


Gurleen Kaur Brar - Bachelor of Science in Nursing

President’s Medal for Academic Excellence and Community Service

Gurleen feels very honoured to be the recipient of the President’s Medal for Academic Excellence and Community Service for the Bachelor of Science in Nursing. Throughout her studies and volunteer experiences, she has been able to grow as a leader and adapt to new situations. Gurleen has had the opportunity to interact with vulnerable populations which have helped to provide her with a different perspective on society and issues faced within the health care system. She hopes to pursue further study to promote positive change and to help improve health care for the community.


Eloise Faehndrich - Associate of Science Degree in Physics

Langara College Graduate Excellence Award (Arts and Science)

Eloise is graduating with the highest cumulative grade point average in a two-year arts and science program. She was surprised and honoured to be the recipient of this prestigious award, and intends to use the funds received toward her future studies at the University of British Columbia. Eloise is proud of her triumphs at Langara both academically and on the court, as she was able to pursue her interests in both physics and basketball. She attributes her success to her peers and coaches and appreciates their support. She is also excited to be spending this summer as a mountain guide with Beyond Malibu, exploring the wilderness of the Princess Louisa Inlet.


Jonathan Loglisci - Bachelor of Recreation Management

President’s Medal for Academic Excellence and Community Service

Johnny’s volunteer experiences and leadership roles within the recreation sector have helped him to develop a high level of confidence and increasing motivation to continue his studies within the field. His experiences have allowed him to showcase his skills in research and development, event logistics, sales and marketing campaigns, risk management, and policy and programming centered on inclusion-based support. Johnny plans to continue his education by pursuing a Master’s in Sports Management through Georgetown University.


Sarah McLean - Diploma in Early Childhood Education

Governor General’s Collegiate Bronze Medal & Langara College Graduate Excellence Award (Career)

Sarah is graduating with the highest cumulative grade point average of any two-year diploma or associate degree program. She is grateful for the recognition of her commitment, hard work, and passion throughout her program. The Early Childhood Education Program has helped her to gain respect, confidence, and a sense of competence within the field. The challenging situations she has overcome have allowed her to prepare for her future career with the hope of working in the field of child development, early childhood trauma, attachment, and mentorship. She appreciates the support and encouragement of her husband, family, and friends throughout her time at Langara.

Geraldine is graduating with the highest cumulative grade point average in a certificate program at Langara College. Beginning her studies at Langara in fall 2017, Geraldine was on the Dean’s Honour Roll in both the Fall 2017 and Spring 2018 Semesters. She is excited to be the recipient of this award, which recognizes her achievements in the Education Assistant Program.

Jaskamal feels that the opportunities and experiences she has been given as a student were made possible by the network of supportive instructors and the foundation of support she has received from her friends and family. She will always remember the valuable lessons she has learned within the program about the importance of staying involved, being interactive, and building connections.
