Chad Walters - Arts and Science

Langara College Graduate Excellence Award (Arts & Science)

When he decided to return to school after a 10-year absence, Chad feared that he would be unsuccessful. He has since come to learn that with focus and hard work he is capable of anything. He achieved the highest cumulative grade point average of any student in a two-year arts and science program. He is using the skills he developed at Langara as a stepping-stone to UBC and ultimately, to a career helping others in social work or psychology.


Jonathan Beaumier - Nursing

President's Medal for Academic Excellence and Community Service

Inspired by a relative who works as a perioperative nurse, Jonathan is passionate about nursing. He is deeply interested in and concerned about the impact of intercultural conflicts and the barriers it creates to healthcare access. In addition to his academic achievements, Jonathan volunteers with AIDS Vancouver and the Positive Living Society of BC to provide outreach and education services to people from marginalized backgrounds.


Jaimie Brown - Recreation Management

Langara College Graduate Excellence Award (Bachelor's Degree Program)

Jaimie is a passionate and dedicated recreation professional. An accomplished multitasker, she successfully juggled her full-time work with the North Vancouver Recreation Commission and her classwork to achieve the highest cumulative grade point average of any student in a Bachelor’s program. Moving forward, she hopes to continue working to expand recreation opportunities in the community.


Robin Destun - Social Service Worker

Robin is committed to social justice and equality. Her dedication to helping others is demonstrated through her volunteer work with the Canadian Mental Health Association, Kettle Friendship Society, and Victoria Immigrant and Refugee Centre Society. After graduation, she hopes to continue her work in the social service sector in the field of mental health. Her future plans include getting her Masters in Social Work.


Teresa Gray - Education Assistant

Langara College Graduate Excellence Award (Certificate Program)

After a long stint as a full-time caregiver to her child and elderly parent, Teresa returned to school at the age of 52, proving that formal education need not be restricted to a certain age or stage of life. She earned the highest cumulative grade point average of any student in a one-year certificate program. Teresa’s future plans include working as a support worker for the Vancouver School Board.


Robin Jones - Library and Information Technology

Governor General's Collegiate Bronze Medal & Langara College Graduate Excellence Award (Career Program)

A double award winner, Robin achieved the highest cumulative grade point average of any student in a two-year career program. Originally from Vancouver Island, she appreciated the program’s hands-on approach and enjoyed its sense of community and camaraderie. Her advice to future graduates is “Enjoy your time at Langara. It will go by faster than you expect.”


Christian Westin - Business Administration

President's Medal for Academic Excellence and Community Service

A natural leader in and out of the classroom, Christian is an exceptional student and great ambassador for the College. In addition to his academic success, Christian’s love of learning new things and engaging with other students has led to his leadership roles in community service activities such as the Greeting Fluency and iLead Student Leadership Conference. He was also the driving force behind Langara’s first TEDx event.
