In honour of National Nursing Week (May 12–18), Langara College is launching a campaign to raise funds for nursing scholarships and bursaries that will directly support the next generation of healthcare professionals. This year’s theme from the Canadian Nurses Association, “The Power of Nurses to Transform Health,” reflects the vital role that nurses play in shaping the future of care in Canada.
Supporting the future of healthcare.
National Nursing Week is a time to recognize the invaluable contributions nurses make every day. It’s also a crucial opportunity to invest in nursing education and ensure that future nurses are equipped to meet the growing demands of Canada’s healthcare system.
“Nursing is a demanding field, and our students require focused and committed learning and preparation time, which does not easily allow for work outside of being a student,” says Sandy Atwal, Division Chair, Faculty of Nursing at Langara College. “Financial support through scholarships and bursaries is critical in allowing our students to pursue their career goals in becoming a Registered Nurse.”
Removing financial barriers for nursing students.
Langara’s Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) program is recognized for its hands-on, high-impact training. But for many students, the rigorous nature of the program makes it difficult to hold part-time jobs. Financial aid through bursaries and scholarships helps students focus on their studies and succeed in completing their program.
“As a recipient of bursaries, I’ve been able to dedicate more time to studying instead of working, which has been crucial for my growth as a student,” shares Johnna Maddatu, a current BSN student at Langara. “Your generosity allows us to focus on our learning and grow professionally in our careers. Thank you for investing in the future of healthcare.”
A legacy of excellence in nursing education.
Since 1971, Langara College’s Nursing Program has graduated over 5,000 skilled nurses. Known for their clinical expertise, critical thinking, and compassionate care, Langara graduates are a vital part of Canada’s healthcare system. They are often the first point of contact in emergencies, provide essential treatments, and offer continuous care in diverse healthcare settings.
