Vancouver, BC – Langara College is ready to celebrate co-operative education and work integrated learning (WIL) month this March, highlighting the many opportunities and contributions community partners make to our students’ success. The month will culminate on March 27 with the Co-op Student of the Year award.
“Our department continues to support work integrated learning initiatives through co-op, local and international internships, and through multiple program areas,” said Sue Yang, Department Chair, Co-op and Career Development Centre. “As well we offer student career services that include workshops, industry events and career fairs. We are excited to celebrate our Co-op Student of the Year and the many on-campus events this month.”
Career events on campus for our Co-op & Career Week will focus on different aspects of work Integrated learning across various programs at Langara:
- March 7: Get Career Ready Workshops and Alumni Talks
- March 8: Criminal Justice Career Talk
- March 11: Career Talks Day: Project Management, Accounting & Finance, and STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Mathematics)
- March 12: College-wide Career Fair and Marketing Career Talk
- March 13: Explore Your Future Pathway Networking Event with Langara Alumni
Co-op and Career Week (March 7-13) allows students to connect with a range of employers and as a result, students gain a stronger understanding of jobs and careers in their field of study before they graduate. At the same time, employers have an opportunity to meet the next generation aspiring to work in their field, discover the diverse talents of Langara students, and share insights.
“Being a co-op student has provided me with opportunities to step into roles I never imagined. Overcoming my initial fear of public speaking by sharing my work experiences with 1200 students via classroom presentations, each moment has been a lesson in growth and self-discovery,” said Joyce Le, a Langara College co-op student working for the Co-op & Career Development Centre. “My hands-on experience has deepened my understanding of marketing strategies and community engagement, sparking a newfound passion for event planning.”
Every year, Co-operative Education and Work-Integrated Learning Canada (CEWIL) uses March to highlight Canada’s annual Co-op & WIL Week celebrations, celebrating the achievements of future-ready students and the impact those students had in their work-integrated learning experiences.
