Curious About His Study? Read the Abstract Below
This classroom-based research project engaged students in investigating wild yeast diversity in the Greater Vancouver region. Students conducted novel research, directly sampling and studying local wild yeasts. Yeasts play a crucial role in fermentation, contributing to the production of foods and beverages like sourdough bread and craft beer. Students participated in all stages of the research process, including (1) environmental sampling, (2) strain isolation, (3) molecular identification, and (4) reporting their findings. The project fostered curiosity-driven learning, equipping students with practical microbiology and molecular biology skills while contributing to the assessment of local wild yeasts for brewing and industrial applications.
