Langara College Film Arts utilizes professional equipment for our productions including (in 2019) the new Black Magic Ursa Mini 4K camera.The camera uses the EF lens mount, and a 4K Super 35 image sensor with global shutter. It is lightweight and perfectly balanced for handheld use and comfortable enough for all day shooting. It features professional 12G-SDI connections, a 5" fold out touchscreen monitor and side grip with camera control functions as well as dual CFast card recorders, built in stereo microphones and more.

Film Arts also has all the camera support accessories utilizing the Blackmagic Design electronic viewfinder with a 1920 x 1080 color OLED display, and shoulder mount system; 4K monitor; SHAPE follow focus and matte box systems; doorway dollies and Manfrotto fluid head tripods.

For sound recording, students us the Edirol/Roland R-44 Solid-State Four-Channel Portable Field Recorder with RODE shotgun microphones, LAVs, blimps and boom poles; and lighting gear that includes Arri-styled fresnel LED light fixtures, as well as traditional lights including an HMI, Arri’s, Tungsten Fresnel’s and red heads. Also, included is an extensive grip package.

Students edit in a prime acoustic suite (The Vault) in high definition using Final Cut Pro X on Mac Pro towers with dual monitor setups. They also have exclusive access to an ADR and foley sound booth.

In Summer Term, Film Arts student productions use the Studio 58 theatre, rehearsal rooms and green room/kitchen for set builds, rehearsals, meetings and classes.
