The Faculty of Education offers a Bachelor of Education degree in Elementary Teacher Education which prepares students to teach Kindergarten to Grade 7 and a Bachelor of Education degree in Middle Years Teacher Education which prepares students to teach Grade 6 to 8.
- Completing UBC's 11-month program leads to a Bachelor of Education (BEd) degree and recommendation for teacher certification by the Ministry of Education Teacher Certification Branch (TCB) This qualifies students to apply for certification to teach in the province of British Columbia. Students can also apply elsewhere in Canada and abroad, although each province and country has its own certification requirements.
- Teacher candidates in the Elementary & Middle Years option learn together in cohorts organized by a particular theme or pedagogical approach.
- Admission eligibility for the Middle Years option is the same as the Elementary Years option, with the exception of the experience hours being with an older child/youth group.
- UBC has a detailed Self-Assessment Worksheet for prospective students to use in planning their studies.
- UBC offers Admissions Advising for prospective students including online information sessions.
- In addition to the Education admission requirements, students must consider lower level requirements for the major they will choose for their first degree.
