The Professional Development Program (PDP) is a full-time, 16-month post-degree teacher education program offered by SFU's Faculty of Education. It is for anyone who wants to achieve their BC teaching certificate and teach grades K - 12. Applicants must have completed a Bachelor's degree in order to apply. If admitted you may have the option of completing a Bachelor of Education as a second degree during the program (without extra time or cost).

To be admitted into the Professional Development Program (Elementary Education) students require:
- A Bachelor's degree (minimum three-year, 90-credit) before starting the PDP.
- A minimum of 76 credits of acceptable coursework before applying for the PDP.
- A GPA of 2.5+ on the last 60 credits (approximately) of undergraduate coursework.
- Experience (volunteer or paid) working with children or youth at the age level you wish to teach.
- The following courses (see SFU's Chart of Acceptable Courses for more information):
- 2 English or French courses (minimum 6 credits including 3 credits of literature)
- 1 Canadian History course
- 1 Canadian Geography course
- 1 Laboratory Science course
- 1 Mathematics for teachers course (SFU's MATH 190 or equivalent)
- elementary applicants are recommended to have education, fine and performing arts and kinesiology courses
- SFU literacy requirement
- SFU quantitative requirement
