Please welcome Dr. Pouyan Mahboubi to snəw̓eyəɬ leləm̓ Langara College as Provost and Vice-President, Academic. Dr. Mahboubi joins the College in this new capacity on August 28.
Dr. Mahboubi brings over 25 years of experience as a post-secondary leader and educator at several BC post-secondary institutions. Within each institution, he held key roles in the effective development, management, and implementation of strategic plans, while moving institutions forward as local, national, and international destinations. Dr. Mahboubi led the development of future-facing programs, the building of domestic and international partnerships, and dual credit and transfer agreements that enhanced student mobility, contributing to their success and helping students achieve their goals. His substantive work with Indigenous governments and communities includes developing strategic partnerships and collaborating with Indigenous faculty at Capilano University on the Land/Water School Framework.
“My approach to leadership is collaborative and built on trusting and collegial relations that engage the full breadth of institutional talents to advance the goals of the institution’s strategic and academic plans,” said Dr. Mahboubi. “Justice, equity, diversity and inclusion are significant themes of my work as we look to attract and engage excellence from diverse communities. As a leader, scholar and parent, I am deeply committed to lifting the critical work underway in the arena of higher education.”
Dr. Mahboubi served as Associate Vice‐President Academic & Vice‐Provost since April 2022, and as Dean, Faculty of Arts and Sciences from 2018-2022, both at Capilano University. At Coast Mountain College, he served as Dean of Instruction (2014-2018) and Coordinator Department of Applied Coastal Ecology and University Instructor (1997-2014).
Dr. Mahboubi’s academic qualifications include a PhD in Natural Resources & Environmental Studies, University of Northern BC (2015); Doctoral Certificate in Human & Environmental Risk Assessment (NSERC Grant), University of Saskatchewan (2014); M.Sc. in Environmental Biology, University of Guelph (1995); and B.Sc., University of British Columbia (1991).
