Vancouver, BC – This summer Langara College was pleased to sign a Letter of Understanding (LoU) with the University of Auckland to foster academic collaboration and cooperation between the two institutions.
The agreement paves the way for Langara graduates to pursue a variety of bachelor’s degree programs at the New Zealand university. The LoU also proposes the exchange of teaching and research staff, and promotes several exciting field school opportunities.
“The University of Auckland is recognized as an outstanding center of teaching, learning, and research,” said Langara’s Dean of Science Margaret Heldman, who signed the LoU on behalf of the College. “This relationship creates exciting opportunities for our students to complete undergraduate degrees in math and science with the added bonus of experiencing an international context.”
The LoU outlines a schedule of transferability for Langara students who have completed a two-year associate degree in math or science at the College, and who are interested in moving into further education at the University of Auckland. A variety of unique six-week programs are also available to Langara students through the University of Auckland’s Faculty of Science, including a marine science field school and an archaeology field school.
“The University of Auckland prides itself on being an international institution, and we look forward to welcoming individuals from Langara’s community into our own,” said Grant Guilford, UofA’s Dean of Science. “This is a wonderful opportunity for collaboration, both at the student and faculty level.”
The University of Auckland was established in 1883 and is the largest university in New Zealand. The institution serves more than 40,000 students over six campuses, and is recognized as one of the top 100 post-secondaries in the world.
