Global opportunities

Disney Field School

Langara College, in partnership with Disney International Programs and the University of California, Riverside, offers a unique international field school where students have the opportunity to work at Walt Disney World.  The program blends nine credits of academic coursework at the University of California, Riverside and at the Disney University with six months of supervised paid training at Walt Disney World. The Disney Field School program is open to all students.

We asked Michael, a past participant, what three things he will carry forward in his life and career from his experience. Here's what he said:

Three things I’ll carry forth from this experience would be the guest service skills that I learned from working at Disney, a passion for travel and trying new things, and the countless friendships I have made with people from all over the world.

Global Skills Opportunity

Global Skills Opportunity is an integral component of the Government of Canada’s International Education Strategy. The program aims to empower post-secondary institutions to increase the participation of young Canadians — especially underrepresented students — in international learning opportunities both at home and abroad.

Career-focussed, industry relevant graduates

All LSM undergraduate programs have the option to participate in the co-op program and gain valuable skills and references before they graduate.

We have actively employed Langara students and alumni for over six years. With each semester, a talented new group of business co-op students have helped to build our brand and business. They’ve played a big part in our company’s success. I’m always impressed with the students and highly recommend the program.

Do they get jobs in the area they studied? Yes and no.

Many of our students go on to continue their studies, others start businesses, and many have careers already started by the time they come to Langara College. The thread that runs through their education at Langara is that they are able to learn new ideas and concepts while applying them to real-world situations both inside the classroom, as they move to different academic institutions, and in their work.

Kavita, Diploma in Marketing Management alum, works in the industry she studied.

After completing my Marketing Diploma, and finding out about Sports Management from students I meant via the Disney International Program, by way of the Co-Op program at Langara, I continued my studies to achieve a Bachelor's degree in Sport Management. Since then, I have been able to fill a variety of roles in the Professional Sports Industry; most recently with the Toronto Raptors, as Manager of Game Presentation, which actually falls under the scope of Marketing.

I applied a number of principles I learned when I was at Langara even though the marketing landscape has changed drastically since I took my diploma (hello digital marketing and social media!). I started off in the marketing and sales coordination side, then moved into event management and now I am in a position that is a combination of event management and administration and I love it!
