Indigenous Awards

The bursaries and scholarships that follow are for Indigenous students.

*Please note that for some of the bursaries and scholarships listed below, the term “Aboriginal” is the same as “Indigenous” and would mean “First Nations, Métis, and Inuit people of Canada”. The term “Indian”, “Native”, or “Native Indian” would mean a First Nations person of Canada.

Langara Bursaries

Bursary applications for fall 2025 are now open. Please complete the form and submit your documents by Friday, September 19, 2025, at 4:00 pm. Applicants will be notified by email of the results before the end of November.

Bud Mintz Memorial Bursary is an annual bursary that provides financial assistance to First Nations students to continue their studies at Langara . In order to be eligible, the student must be a First Nations student who has successfully completed a 12 credit course load in the immediate previous semester of study and who is currently registered in 12 credits of study.  Recipients must also demonstrate financial need. (Spring)

David Thomas Pearson Bursary Fund is awarded to a student who has a minimum 2.00 GPA for a nine-credit load in the previous semester. The recipient must be able to demonstrate Aboriginal* ancestry and have written proof of a financial need that prohibits continued studies.

Eagle View Indigenous Student Bursary is for students who are enrolled in their first semester at Langara and may be enrolled in either full-time or part-time in a Regular or Continuing Studies program. Recipients must be able to demonstrate financial need, and preference will be given to students who have Indigenous ancestry. (Fall, Spring, or Summer)

Gwyn and Aileen Gunn Aboriginal Students Bursary is awarded to Aboriginal* students in good standing and demonstrate financial need.

HDR Indigenous Bursary is awarded to a Langara College student of Indigenous ancestry who is enrolled full-time or part-time in a Regular Studies or Continuing Studies program and is in their first term at Langara. The recipient must also demonstrate financial need. (Spring, Summer or Fall)

Native Northwest Reconciliation Award is awarded to a student who is enrolled in either Early Childhood Education, Bachelor of Nursing, or the Division of Fine Arts. The student must identify as Indigenous and demonstrate financial need.

Native Northwest Reconciliation and Diversity Award is awarded to an Indigenous student enrolled part-time or full-time in a Regular Studies or Continuing Studies program and demonstrates financial need. (Fall, Spring, or Summer)

R&A Koerner Foundation Community Indigenous Bursary is awarded to a student who is enrolled as a full-time or part-time student, in either Regular Studies or Continuing Studies. The student must be 25 or under at the time of applying, be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident, and be able to demonstrate financial need. Preference will be given to a student with Indigenous ancestry. (Any term)

Real Estate Foundation Aboriginal Studies Bursary is for students who are enrolled in a minimum of nine credits hours and are enrolled in any three ABST courses in one term. Students must also demonstrate financial need.

Sam Nelson Memorial Bursary are varying in amounts and are available to Native Indian students enrolled in any program at Langara. Students must show financial need.

Langara Scholarships

Chapoton Hall Scholarship is awarded to a full-time student of Indigenous descent who demonstrates leadership and involvement in helping or advancing an Indigenous initiative or a project in their community. An application is required. (Fall)

Indigenous Community and Creativity Award is awarded to a student who self-identifies as First Nations, Métis or Inuit, and demonstrates a connection to creative practice or connection to community-based learnings and teachings centered around their own experiences. No minimum CGPA is required. (Spring, Summer, or Fall)

The Kelsall Indigenous Student Scholarship is awarded to a part-time or full-time student enrolled in a Regular or Continuing Studies program who self-identifies as Indigenous people of Canada. Preference will be given to young parents (up to 25 years old) and single parents. Students must have a minimum CGPA of 2.0 to be eligible. Previous recipients may reapply. (Spring, Summer, or Fall)

Mandell Pinder LLP/J. Dwyer Indigenous Education Scholarship is awarded to an Indigenous student enrolled in a full-time Regular Studies program, who demonstrates high academic excellence and has a minimum CGPA of 3.0. (Spring, Summer, or Fall)

Native Northwest Reconciliation Award for Musqueam Students is awarded to students who are enrolled in either the early childhood education program, Bachelor of Science in Nursing, or the Division of Fine Arts programs. Applicants must identify as having Indigenous ancestry from the Musqueam First Nations Band and are able to demonstrate financial need. (Spring, Summer, or Fall)

ONNI Gives Award is awarded to a student with Indigenous ancestry that is enrolled part-time or full-time in a Regular or Continuing Studies program. Preference will be given to a student who is interested in studying or pursuing a career related to development, construction, architecture, urban design and planning, or other studies that contribute to city or community building. Students are only eligible to receive this award once. No previous registration required. (Spring, Summer, or Fall)

Shirley Joseph Memorial Scholarship is awarded to First Nations students who have successfully completed a minimum of four courses (12 credits) with a grade point average of 3.5 in their immediate previous semester of study. They must also be currently enrolled in at least four courses (12 credits). The student must demonstrate characteristics of kindness, creativity, and decision-making based on relevant research, as well as a commitment to helping First Nations Peoples by their participation in First Nations activities at Langara College and/or externally.
