Fee Deferral

Important Update: Fee Deferral Process Change Effective for Fall 2026
 

Under the previous student loan system, a fee deferral was automatically applied to a student's account once their student loan application was approved and a Notice of Assessment was issued.

Under the new system, this is no longer automatic.

After receiving a Notice of Assessment, students must log back into their student loan account and accept the assessment. Until this step is completed, Langara College cannot see the student's funding information and a fee deferral may not be applied.

What you need to do:

  • Log in to your student loan account after your Notice of Assessment has been issued.
  • Review and accept your assessment.
  • Check the 'Account Balance & Payments' section in the Student Information System (SIS) to confirm that your fee deferral has been applied.
  • If you do not see the fee deferral on your account, please email finaid [at] langara.ca (finaid[at]langara[dot]ca) and include your full name, student ID number, and student loan application number.
     

Students are responsible for ensuring that a fee deferral is in place before the tuition payment deadline, Friday, August 14, 2026.
 

Apply as early as possible for student loan funding

In order to be eligible for a fee deferral and avoid being dropped from your courses for non-payment, you must qualify under one of the following Fee Deferral categories:
 
Students who have received approvals for their BC/Canada Student Loans:
  • If you receive approval before 2100 hours on Friday, August 14, 2026, an automatic fee deferral for tuition and fees will be processed and you will not be dropped from your courses.
  • Visit Langara's Student Information System, under ‘Account Balance & Payments’, to check if this deferral is in place
Students with approved out-of-province loan funding:
  • If you are receiving a student loan from another province, you may apply to the Financial Aid Office for the Deferred Payment Plan before the fee payment deadline. You must provide written documentation of the approval and funds pending. Contact the Financial Aid Office as soon as possible, to apply for the deferral.
Students receiving sponsorship funding:
  • If you expect to receive sponsorship funding, you are required to provide written documentation of approval and funds pending to Student Accounts no later than 1600 hours on Friday, August 14, 2026.   • Please do not contact the Financial Aid Office in regards to sponsorship funding.

Note: Students enrolled in half-semester courses may not be eligible for student loan funding. See the Financial Aid Office for options.
