About-SELP

The Spring/Summer English Language Program (SELP) is an immersive, three-week course in language and cultural study at Langara College, a public institution in Vancouver, Canada. The program combines classroom learning with off-campus experiences in Vancouver’s multicultural West Coast setting, with the goal of helping students improve their fluency, build confidence, and strengthen their communication skills..

SELP offers:

  • 25 hours per week of English Language Instruction (ELI) and socio-cultural outings
  • Small, supportive, participatory classes
  • Experiential, interactive learning through engaging projects
  • A focus on speaking and effective communication
  • The chance to experience life on a vibrant and diverse college campus
  • An opportunity to interact with local students
  • The chance to live with a local homestay family

Student-centered learning

Students are at the centre of the learning experience. Each week in class, they build their language skills and vocabulary by exploring an engaging theme, such as cultural differences, communication, or social media. They also work together on short, theme-based projects and collaborative activities that require them to share ideas and solve problems with their classmates. Off-campus excursions to popular tourist attractions allow students to use their language skills in authentic contexts.
