Emergency procedures
Safe Assembly Areas

In case of a major emergency, Langara College will announce a full or partial evacuation through its Public Address System. Please familiarize yourself with the designated safe Assembly Areas (AA) on campus, as you will be advised to proceed to the one that is nearest to you.
Emergency Lockdown
A campus lockdown is an emergency procedure implemented when necessary to ensure that the occupants of College buildings are protected from an external threat, including but not limited to, an active assailant, violent incident, or other potentially dangerous civil disturbances. To ensure everyone's safety, it is essential that all members of the campus community understand what is expected of them when a lockdown situation is initiated.
What to do in a lockdown:
In the event of an emergency lockdown, an emergency alert will be delivered over the campus emergency warning Public Address System (PAS).
- Take shelter in the nearest classroom or office, lock the doors and windows, refer to any lockdown procedures posted in the room, and follow instruction from Police, Campus Security, Emergency wardens or other Safety/Emergency Services personnel.
- If the door does not lock, barricade the entry with tables and chairs.
Cover any windows on the doors. - Close the window curtains/coverings if the threat is external of the building.
- Keep the window curtains/coverings open if the threat is internal within the building.
- Turn off the lights.
- Turn off cellular/text devices.
- Stay low and quiet, away from windows and doors.
- Remain calm and wait for the "All Clear" message.
This video, created by our friends at Douglas College for their campus, demonstrates a clear step-by-step instruction on what to do during an emergency lockdown.
