Courses are scheduled on weekday evenings (6:30pm-9:30pm), Fridays, and Saturdays.

Graduation Requirements

Minimum grade required for each course: C+

To qualify for a Continuing Studies credential, students must complete at least 50% of the required course hours at Langara College Continuing Studies. Unless approval from the Program Coordinator is granted, this must be the final 50% of the program.  Students who have completed previous course work and would like to have courses assessed for prerequisites or exemptions towards the certificate must provide documents in the form of official transcripts to the Program Coordinator (real-estate@langara.ca).

Upon successful completion of all required courses, students can submit an Application for Graduation form to the Continuing Studies Registration Office.

Students may transfer all of the above courses toward the UBC Diploma in Urban Land Economics and the UBC Bachelor of Business in Real Estate. Students with a business degree may apply two courses (i.e. Real Estate Appraisal and Real Estate Investment Analysis) toward the UBC Post-Graduate Certificate in Real Property Valuation, an accelerated pathway to the AACI designation from the Appraisal Institute of Canada. This option may appeal to Langara College Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) graduates.

BC Financial Services Authority (BCFSA)

BC Financial Services Authority (BCFSA) is responsible for the licensing process in BC for various professions. Students have the option of completing specific Langara College courses to become eligible to request a waiver from the applicable UBC licensing course. Students would be responsible for meeting all other BCFSA requirements (English Proficiency, licensing examination, applied practice course) with BCFSA directly.

Trading Services Licensing

Students can complete the following 4 courses to be exempt from the UBC Real Estate Trading Services Licencing Course:

Rental Management Services Licensing

Students who complete the Property Management Certificate program and the following courses may be exempt from the UBC Rental Property Management Licencing Course:

Appraisal Institute of Canada

The Appraisal Institute of Canada awards two professional designations: the Canadian Residential Appraiser (CRA) and the Accredited Appraiser Canadian Institute, Professional Appraiser (AACI, P.App.).

The following three courses may be applied toward the CRA designation:

The above courses, plus the following two courses, may be applied toward the AACI designation:

Real Estate Institute of British Columbia

The Continuing Studies Diploma in Real Estate meets the education requirement for the RI designation of the Real Estate Institute of British Columbia.

Institute of Real Estate Management

PROP 1004: Real Estate Law and PROP 1024: Real Estate Mathematics may be applied toward the CPM designation, awarded by the Institute of Real Estate Management through the Real Estate Institute of Canada.

Institute of Municipal Assessors

PROP 1005: Real Estate Appraisal and PROP 1024: Real Estate Mathematics fulfill two of five course requirements for the UBC Certificate in Real Property Assessment. This certificate meets the core educational requirement leading to the Institute of Municipal Assessors’ Associate Member (AIMA) and Accredited Member (MIMA) designations.
