Growing demand within the life sciences, biotechnology, pharmaceutical, and bioinformatics sectors has created a need for professionals with specialized skills in computational protein design and analysis. Advances in artificial intelligence, protein structure prediction, and molecular simulation technologies require targeted, hands-on training in industry-relevant tools and techniques used in protein engineering and therapeutic development.

The Micro-Credential in Protein Engineering Applications is intended for upper-level undergraduate students, bachelor’s degree holders, mid-career professionals, Indigenous learners, domestic and international students, and individuals with at least two years of post-secondary study in biology and computer science. It also complements Langara's existing bioinformatics micro-credentials, allowing learners to stack credentials and build expertise across multiple omics disciplines.

Students explore foundational topics and practical techniques in protein modeling, molecular simulation, AIdriven protein design, and computational biology. As the only institution in British Columbia offering a bachelor’s degree in bioinformatics, Langara is uniquely positioned to deliver this specialized microcredential and support provincial workforce development in B.C.’s growing biotech and life sciences sector.
