About

Growing demand within the life sciences, biotechnology, pharmaceutical, and bioinformatics sectors has created a need for professionals with specialized skills in computational protein design and analysis. Advances in artificial intelligence, protein structure prediction, and molecular simulation technologies require targeted, hands-on training in industry-relevant tools and techniques used in protein engineering and therapeutic development.
The Micro-Credential in Protein Engineering Applications is intended for upper-level undergraduate students, bachelor’s degree holders, mid-career professionals, Indigenous learners, domestic and international students, and individuals with at least two years of post-secondary study in biology and computer science. It also complements Langara's existing bioinformatics micro-credentials, allowing learners to stack credentials and build expertise across multiple omics disciplines.
Students explore foundational topics and practical techniques in protein modeling, molecular simulation, AI-driven protein design, and computational biology. As the only institution in British Columbia offering a bachelor’s degree in bioinformatics, Langara is uniquely positioned to deliver this specialized micro-credential and support provincial workforce development in B.C.’s growing biotech and life sciences sector.
