Vancouver, B.C. – Langara College is marking National Nursing Week by celebrating more than $11 million in support of nursing education, including $8.1 million from the Province of British Columbia, alongside philanthropy and community support. This milestone reflects what is possible when a post-secondary institution, government, and philanthropy come together to create lasting impact for people and communities across British Columbia.

The Province’s contribution includes two distinct investments supporting Langara’s nursing expansion. Beginning in March 2025, Langara received an initial $2.6 million to support planning, preparation, and capital needs related to the expansion. In March 2026, the College received a further $5.5 million in one-time provincial funding to expand nursing education capacity and help meet B.C.’s urgent need for more nurses.

Langara’s Faculty of Nursing continues to play an important role in preparing the next generation of nurses for B.C.’s health-care system. As demand for nurses continues across the province, this investment will help strengthen student access, enhance learning environments, and support the continued growth of high-quality nursing education. Langara College Foundation has also played an important role in bringing philanthropic and community partners together to support this initiative, helping provide student supports that set nursing students up for success in their studies.

Langara is recognizing this milestone during a Nursing Week event on campus on May 14, bringing together government representatives, donors, faculty, students, and community partners to celebrate the shared commitment behind this investment.

“This is an important moment for Langara and for the future of health care in British Columbia,” said Paula Burns, President of Langara College. “We are deeply grateful for the support that has helped make this investment possible. It will create more opportunity for students, strengthen nursing education, and help prepare the next generation of nurses our communities need.”

“Nurses are the backbone of our health‑care system, which is why we’re taking action to train more,” said Sunita Dhir, Parliamentary Secretary for International Credentials. “This one-time grant will allow Langara College to train many additional nurses, as well as provide better support for student-nurses during their studies. With more nurses on the way, more people across B.C. can look forward to accessing the care they need, when and where they need it.”

This investment will help support students, strengthen nursing education at Langara, and contribute to the long-term health of communities throughout the province.
