About

Build what's next in design, development, and AI

Artificial intelligence is changing how digital products are designed, developed, and experienced. The Canadian and global technology sectors are rapidly evolving, creating strong demand for professionals skilled in artificial intelligence, web development, and emerging technologies.

Langara's Artificial Intelligence Applications Program (AIAP) is a future-focused, applied, career-oriented program that prepares you to be part of what's next. Build the practical, industry-relevant skills you need to thrive in the modern digital workforce.

AIAP is designed around applied, hands-on learning, with a curriculum that reflects the growing role of artificial intelligence in technology, digital design and development.

Choose a developer or designer pathway, build specialized technical and creative skills, and then work alongside students from both disciplines to create digital projects in a collaborative, industry-style environment. Apply your skills through projects that bring together design, development, problem-solving, and emerging technology.

In two years, you'll graduate with practical, industry-ready experience and a portfolio of work to showcase your skills and talent to future employers.

Program highlights

  • Multiple pathways: Start the program with Computer Science or Digital Media and Design courses, build specialized skills in development or design, then come together for collaborative AIAP projects.
  • Career-ready in two years: Build practical skills for careers in digital design or development.
  • AI-integrated and current: Develop skills for a digital industry increasingly shaped by AI and emerging technologies.
  • Designers and developers work together: Collaborate across disciplines on projects that reflect how digital teams work in industry.
  • Applied, hands-on learning: Put your learning into practice by designing, prototyping, and building digital products.
  • Portfolio development: Graduate with cross-disciplinary collaborative project work that showcases your skills to future employers.
  • Industry/career connection: Develop skills aligned with current industry needs and emerging career opportunities.

Who this program is for

Whether you're coming directly from high school, continuing your post-secondary education, or looking to build new skills for a changing industry, you'll gain practical experience designed to help you take your next step with confidence.

For international students: The AIAP diplomas are eligible for the Post-Graduation Work Permit (PGWP) program.

What you’ll learn

Turn your interest in technology, design, and AI into practical, globally competitive skills for the future.

As you learn how AI is changing the field, you’ll develop current design and development skills, work collaboratively, build tangible projects, and prepare for careers in a rapidly evolving digital industry.
Students from both streams work together on two major projects, designing, prototyping, and implementing fully functional digital products. This hands-on, project-based approach gives students practical experience working in teams, solving real-world problems, and applying industry-standard software practices.

Shared program outcomes

  • Design, develop, and deploy complex digital applications.
  • Apply user-centred design and development principles.
  • Collaborate professionally in client-driven, team-based projects using industry-standard project management tools.
  • Identify, interpret, and ethically apply emerging technologies, including AI, in design and development work.
  • Graduate with a portfolio of your cross-disciplinary project work.

Choose your pathway

Whether you're interested in the technology behind digital products or the experiences people have with them, the AIAP Design and Development diplomas give you a pathway to turn that passion into a career.

After developing specialized skills in your chosen pathway, you'll work alongside designers and developers on collaborative projects that reflect how multidisciplinary teams work in industry. You'll put your learning into practice, solve problems together, and create projects that demonstrate what you can do.

Developer pathway

Build your skills in programming, full-stack development, and emerging technologies, including AI. Learn how to develop the technology behind modern digital products and experiences.
