Vancouver, BC – The Langara Falcons are pleased to announce the hiring of Cameron MacGillivary as new head coach of its women’s basketball program.

“We are excited to add Coach MacGillivary as a member of our coaching staff. His passion for coaching and the sport of basketball is evident,” says Jake McCallum, Director of Student Engagement & Athletics. “We look forward to welcoming him as a foundational piece to help build and shape our women’s basketball program moving forward.”

MacGillivary is a highly experienced leader, having spent 13 years in head and assistant coaching roles at various levels throughout the Lower Mainland. He holds bachelor degrees in both kinesiology and education, as well as a Master of Education focussing on health and physical education, all from the University of British Columbia.

"Coaching has been a positive aspect in my life that has put me in touch with great people and helped me grow as an individual," explains MacGillivary. “I take pride in the relationships I have made along the way with fellow coaches and past players. Langara is getting someone who wants the best for the players and program – a coach who will try to build up the program and create a positive culture that sustains success on and off the court.”

Prior to joining the Falcons, MacGillivary was the lead assistant coach at Capilano University. He also served as head coach for Seaquam Secondary’s senior boys and North Delta Secondary’s junior girls teams. A career highlight came in 2014 when MacGillivary served as assistant coach for Sir Winston Churchill Secondary’s BC AAAA championship senior boys team.

The team will begin training in the coming months in preparation for the 2022/23 PACWEST season in the fall.
