Vancouver, BC – The Langara Falcons are pleased to announce that Joey Dhillon will be leading their men’s basketball program as head coach for the 2022-23 season. Current head coach, Paul Eberhardt, will be taking a one-year sabbatical from coaching.
Dhillon joined Langara’s coaching staff in 2018 and has flourished in his time coaching under Eberhardt. His love of competition and passion for connecting with student athletes drives his motivation for coaching.
“The coaches I have had made an everlasting impact on my life and my goal is to pay it forward to future generations,” says Dhillon. "The relationships, memories, and emotions are what will last long after the season.
“I am appreciative of Coach Eberhardt, Mr. McCallum, and the rest of Langara’s Athletics Department for this incredible opportunity to lead a program with such an extensive tradition of excellence,” adds Dhillon. “My main priority is the success of our student athletes, both on and off the court. I am looking forward to building on our successful end to last season.”
Dhillon is currently finishing his Bachelor of Physical Education and Coaching and running Average Joe’s Basketball in Richmond, BC. He has spent time coaching at Cambie Secondary School and with Basketball BC’s provincial teams. This summer, he will join Eberhardt in coaching BC’s U18 Provincial Canada Games team.
“I am grateful to have a young coach with Joey’s passion and professionalism in our program,” says Jake McCallum, Director, Student Engagement and Athletics at Langara College. “I have no doubt he has gained the experience and tools necessary under Coach Eberhardt to put him in a position to succeed at the post-secondary level.”
The team will begin training in the coming months in preparation for the upcoming PACWEST season.
