Kelowna, BC – Congratulations to Langara School of Management students, who recently demonstrated exceptional business skills at the 2016 Western Canadian Business Competition (WCBC). Held at Okanagan College, March 11 to 13, the WCBC is one of Canada’s foremost undergraduate business competitions.

A junior and senior team from Langara competed against teams from Okanagan College, Selkrik College, College of the Rockies, College of New Caledonia, St Lawrence College (ON), and Medicine Hat College (AB). Each team consisted of a marketing, business, and finance student.

The competition presented students with a detailed business simulation, including years of business financial reports and information. Students then analyzed the “health” of the business, and pitched their strategies to a panel of industry experts. Winners were determined by a number of factors, including their ability to analyze the business, and to provide strategic advice.

Business competitions offer a valuable experience for students to apply their learning. One Langara student shared their thoughts on the experience, “We felt the stress of decisions that would impact the company years into the future but we also learned the satisfaction that comes when a team can work harmoniously to create a fantastic end product.”

Langara’s senior team placed third overall, and were recognized for developing the highest-level Strategic Report of the competition. Both teams were also recognized as winners of the Q&A section. Congratulations to Andrew Wang & Gabe Sheshka (Junior) and Wince Leung and Johnson Nguyen (Senior).

School of Management instructors, Danielle Rockel and Don Hill, coached the Langara WCBC teams.
