Vancouver, BC – Langara's Professional Photo-Imaging students are unveiling a new collection of Merging Time photographs at The City of Vancouver Archives today. The compelling project, featuring creatively fused images of old and modern Vancouver, has generated a lot of interest over the past three years.

Students select images of local iconic landmarks from the Vancouver Archives and revisit their locations to capture how they look today. The pictures are then blended together into new composites. This year's collection includes quintessential scenes from False Creek, Stanley Park, Granville Street, East Hastings, and Chinatown.

"It was really interesting to see how the city has changed over the years, and in some cases stayed very much the same. Vancouver seems so new compared to other cities and I think sometimes we take our history for granted," said 2nd year Professional Photo-Imaging student Lily Ditchburn. "Hopefully people will come away from this show with a better understanding of our past."

"We're grateful for the long, collaborative partnership we've had with the Vancouver Archives and are excited to exhibit Merging Time in their gallery for a third year," said Catharine O'Brien-Bell, Professional Photo-Imaging Department Chair. "It is so great to see the work of our students make such a strong impression in the community - these images resonate deeply with locals and visitors alike."

This year's exhibit runs from November 12, 2013 to January 24, 2014. Images from past shows have been printed as greeting cards and can be purchased at the Vancouver Archives or the Langara Bookstore ($10 for a set of 12 blank cards). Proceeds benefit student scholarships.
