Story from the Vancouver Courier

Vancouver, BC
– The Langara Falcons extended their winning streak to 11 games on a weekend road trip to Vancouver Island. The No. 1 college team in the Pacwest defeated Camosun 92-76 on Jan. 11 and then handed Vancouver Island University a 73-67 loss on Jan. 12. They lead the standings with 11 wins and have outscored their opponents by 250 points.

The Falcons scored 37 points in the third quarter to take a commanding lead over Camosun. Mat Madewan sunk five three-point shots on his way to 18 points and Garrett Ling-Lee added 17 points and seven rebounds. Brody Greig had 10 points, 12 assists and four rebounds, a tally head coach Paul Eberhardt said made for exhilarating basketball. “Brody is so fun to watch in the full court, he sees the floor so well and is very good at finding the open man at the right time,” he said.

Against the No. 2 VIU Mariners the next afternoon, Langara looked to repeat a 77-71 win from their first meeting in November. The two top-ranked college teams in B.C. exchanged the lead 25 times until the last two minutes of the fourth quarter when Langara’s defence kept VIU off the scoreboard and the Falcons won 73-67. Jitinder Lohcham went a perfect six for six from the field and free throw line for 18 points. “Jit plays such an important role for us with his strong low post game and ability to block and alter shots on defence,” said Eberhardt. “He also showed the ability to play with pressure as he hit all of his free throws late in the game to seal the win.” Greig had another strong showing with 10 assists, nine rebounds and seven points. Jeff Chu hit some huge shots on his way to 18 points.

The Falcons host the Kwantlen University Eagles Jan. 18 at 8 p.m. and the Columbia Bible College Bearcats Jan. 19 at 5 p.m.
