Join us for a public talk with award-winning author and Langara’s 2025 Writer in Residence, Jasmine Sealy, on February 26 from 6:30–9:30 PM.
Jasmine's book, The Island of Forgetting, will be available to purchase and folks will have an opportunity to have their copy signed.

About Jasmine
Jasmine is the winner of the 2020 UBC/HarperCollins Canada Best New Fiction Prize for her debut novel The Island of Forgetting (2022), which was also named a best book of 2022 by the CBC, The Globe and Mail, and The Sunday Times in the UK. Her short fiction has been shortlisted for the CBC Short Story Prize and the Commonwealth Short Story Prize and is included in Best Canadian Stories and the Journey Prize anthology. A Barbadian-Canadian author, Jasmine is a passionate advocate for nurturing new voices in literature and has experience mentoring emerging writers at the UBC School of Creating Writing and Capilano University.
About Kevin
Kevin is the author of seven books of fiction and nonfiction, including the novel The Double Life of Benson Yu, a finalist for the 2023 Scotiabank Giller Prize and named a Best Book of Canadian Fiction by the CBC. His books have been named books of the year by Globe and Mail, National Post, and Amazon, listed for a CBC prize, a BC Book Prize, and a National Magazine Award, optioned for film and TV, and published in the U.S., Europe, and Australia. His creative nonfiction and journalism have appeared in the Guardian, the Times Literary Supplement, the Rumpus, and the South China Morning Post.
