Dec 16, 2021

As we approach the winter break we'd like to ensure you are aware of the new Global Travel Advisory which was announced by the federal government yesterday, December 15. At this time, all non-essential international travel should be avoided.

Before making any travel plans, you should carefully consider the impact quarantine may have on the start of your academic term, and your ability to return to your studies or work, or to access services such as daycare. As the variants continue to evolve globally, there may also be difficulties returning to Canada if travel restrictions increase or if you develop any symptoms while outside Canada.

We also wish to remind you that travel outside Canada by staff, faculty, and students for College-related activities and business remains restricted to essential travel purposes and for those countries with travel advisories Level 2 or lower. Please read the COVID-19 Outbound Travel Policy for further details.

On December 14, the Provincial Health Officer (PHO) encouraged everyone to remain vigilant in health and safety practices over the holiday season. All residents of British Columbia are encouraged to:

  • Keep holiday gatherings small and to see only close connections whose vaccination statuses you know when meeting indoors

  • Do outdoor activities whenever possible

  • Wear a well-fitting mask when socializing indoors. Please note that the COVID-19 Face Covering Order has been extended indefinitely.

  • Maintain COVID-19 health and safety practices such as hand-washing and doing a daily Self-Assessment before leaving home

  • Book a COVID-19 booster shot when it becomes available to your age group, if you are able to receive one. Vaccination appointments are available to anyone over the age of 5 who wishes to receive their first or second dose. It was announced yesterday that BC’s Vaccine Card program will continue into 2022.

The College takes direction from the PHO, Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH), and the Ministry of Advanced Education and Skills Training. Should any new orders arise over the holiday break from the PHO that impact the College, we will inform our community. We wish you and your loved ones a restful and safe holiday break.
