Fall Term Community Video Update

We know you and your families are likely wondering what the Fall term will be like at Langara. The College has been working very hard to prepare and we would like to share with you this video update about our progress so far:

VOLT Coordinates with WE Charity to Launch Canada Student Service Grant

Langara's Office of Student Engagement (OSE) and VOLT teams have been working hard to source information and roll out the I Want to Help (IWTH) platform and the Canada Student Service Grant (CSSG) program application since early June. We are proud to have been designated a “Champion School” by the WE Charity due to our existing partnership with them.

We are excited to announce that eligible students can now apply to be matched with a volunteer opportunity in the IWTH platform. If students meet the eligibility requirements, they can apply for the CSSG one-time cash awards.

The IWTH program encourages students struggling to find jobs to volunteer and support not-for-profit organizations to fight against COVID-19. Students participating in this program may be eligible for the Canada Student Service Grant (CSSG) which is a cash-award ranging from $1,000 - $5,000. While international Students are not eligible for the cash award they are still eligible to gain valuable experience by volunteering through this program. Students can access the platform to check for the volunteer opportunities all across Canada.

The OSE hosted a Canada Student Service Grant info session on June 10 about how to apply for this amazing opportunity. If you missed the session you can access the recording online.

All inquiries about the program can be directed to the VOLT team at volt@langara.ca.

Federal Government Supports for Students to Gain Paid Work Experience

In addition to launching the I Want to Help program mentioned above, yesterday the Prime Minister also announced additional investments to help more students find paid work opportunities this summer. More information is available on his website.
