A momentous occasion.
Dear Graduates,
Congratulations to the graduating class of 2026.
Convocation is a milestone unlike any other; a moment that marks both an ending and a beginning, and one that belongs not just to you, but to everyone who walked this path alongside you.
Today, as we gather with the family, friends, faculty, and mentors who supported you every step of the way, we celebrate what you have achieved to get here: late nights, hard questions, moments of doubt, and the determination to keep going. None of that happened in isolation, and the people cheering loudest in that room know it.
Be proud of what you've built. The skills, the resilience, the perspective you've earned will carry you forward in ways you can't yet imagine. You are a global citizen, and your choices and actions ripple further than you know.
Our faculty, advisors, and mentors have had the privilege of watching you grow, and they leave today inspired by your transformation. We hope you carry your curiosity and compassion forward — to think boldly, to innovate, and to help shape a community and a world worth being proud of.
Thank you — and thank those who stand beside you — for choosing snəw̓eyəɬ leləm̓ Langara. We are honoured to have been part of your journey, and we hope it is only the beginning of a lifelong connection. You will always have a home here.
With pride and warmest wishes,
Dr. Paula Burns
President, Langara College

Congratulations!
On behalf of Musqueam, congratulations to all the 2026 graduates, including our growing number of Indigenous students who cross the platform in these ceremonies. Your accomplishment reflects your hard work and talent, and we hope that you continue to contribute to snəw̓eyəɬ leləm̓, your communities, and society after graduation. We wish you every success for your future. We trust that your time at snəw̓eyəɬ leləm̓ has helped to do just that and prepared you all for successful futures.
Our connection with snəw̓eyəɬ leləm̓ is reflected in the convocation ceremonies in a variety of ways. A Musqueam drummer opens convocation leading the procession; the president's regalia is adorned with musqueam art; and the river grass at the base of the College’s coat of arms, printed on every diploma and certificate and displayed at convocation, refers to Musqueam—xʷməθkʷəy̓əm, which means “people of the river grass.” We value our continued partnership with snəw̓eyəɬ leləm̓ and the opportunity to share a small part of our culture with you.

It's tradition.
Academic Regalia
Traditionally, graduates, faculty, staff, and distinguished guests have worn academic regalia such as a gown, hood, and mortarboard at convocation ceremonies as far back as the 14th century in England. At Langara, our President wears our presidential regalia – a green gown with black and gold accents, and a black hood with white lining, gold trim, and green chevrons. The colours of the regalia are drawn from Langara's Coat of Arms. Members of the Langara Board of Governors wear our board regalia – a black gown with green panels.
Credentials Granted
Langara College grants a variety of credentials including bachelor’s degrees, post-degree diplomas, post-degree certificates, associate degrees, diplomas, certificates, and citations. Our graduates wear black mortarboards and gowns with either a hood, stole, or tippet to represent their credential.
