About

The study of Arts is essential for understanding human experience, cultures, and societies, and for developing the skills needed to engage thoughtfully with complex social issues. The Associate of Arts (General) offers students the flexibility to learn and explore while preparing them for further post-secondary study; it is also an ideal program for students pursuing university transfer who wish to forge their own unique pathways.

The program’s flexible requirements allow students with varying interests and goals to build a solid academic foundation. Core program requirements engage students in courses in liberal arts, languages, humanities, social sciences, and sciences. Through study across disciplines, students strengthen their critical thinking, research, communication, collaboration, and self-reflection skills, while learning to engage ethically with information sources, new technologies, and diverse perspectives. As part of Langara’s commitment to Indigenization and reconciliation, they also develop foundational knowledge of Indigenous histories, rights, and worldviews.

What distinguishes the Associate of Arts (General) is its combination of academic rigour and broad-based flexibility, allowing students to design a program that reflects their interests while developing their transferable skills. Graduates are well prepared to continue their studies at a post-secondary institution or apply their skills in a wide range of future pursuits.
