This form is for international students to request a deferral of an admitted application for a regular studies program to a future semester. 

Regular Studies Students

Please note that only requests from international students who have been fully admitted can be submitted through this form. This means students that have accepted their offer of admission, payed the deposit, and received their Letter of Acceptance. 

Applicants who have not yet received an offer of admission, or who have not yet paid their deposit and wish to defer their application to a future date are required to reapply to the future intake through EPBC as a “New International Applicant” (a new application fee is required).

Continuing Studies Students

If you are a student in a Continuing Studies program, please submit a deferral request by logging into the Continuing Studies Application Portal.

If your Study Permit was Denied

If your deferral request is due to a study permit denial and if your deferral request is approved, you must reapply for your study permit for the future semester. Future deposit refund requests must include a study permit application denial letter dated after the deferral request.

Please note that deferral requests are not guaranteed to be approved.

Deferring From Term

Please indicate the term you are deferring from. Please note the deferral request is submitted to defer from one term to another for the same program.

Deferring To Term

Please indicate the term you wish to defer to. Please note that not all programs have start dates each term or the next start term may be full. Your deferral request will be considered for the term you requested. If that term is not available, your deferral request will be considered for the next available term. Deferral requests to terms that are not yet open for applications will not be considered..

You have indicated you would like to request a deferral to the Spring 2025 or later term. Please note that as of Spring 2025 intake, the minimum international student tuition deposit amount of $6,000 is fully non-refundable except with proof of study permit refusal from Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) dated on or after the date of your application to the college (or deferred application).

If your deferral request is due to a study permit refusal by IRCC, you must reapply for a study permit if your deferral request is approved for a future term.

If you do not plan to reapply for your study permit based on the future term you are requesting a deferral to, please withdraw your application due to a study permit refusal.

Future requests for a refund of the deposit due to study permit refusal must include a study permit denial letter dated on or after the date of the deferral request.

COLLECTION, USE, AND DISCLOSURE OF STUDENT INFORMATION

Langara College collects the information on this form under the authority of the College and Institute Act [RSBC 1996, Chapter 52, Section 41.1]. This information is needed, and will be used, for purposes that are consistent with activity necessary to the operation of the College and in compliance with the provisions of the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act [RSBC 1996, Chapter 165]. This information will be used for admission, registration, and maintenance of your student record. Information is shared with with Langara College Advancement, Alumni Relations, Langara College Foundation, and the Langara Students’ Union.

The personal information you provide on this form may be shared with the Ministry of Education and will be used to verify your British Columbia Personal Education Number (PEN) or assign one to you. The personal information you provide and your PEN are used for authorized statistical and research purposes only.

Some courses may require students to use electronic instructional resources where students log in by entering personal information, such as name and email address, which is then stored on servers located outside Canada.
