Four Langara Falcons alum—Kevin Hanson, Louis Johnson, Aaron Mitchell, and Rachael Pelat—are being inducted into the CCAA Hall of Fame in 2025, recognizing their outstanding contributions to collegiate athletics. Their achievements highlight not only individual success but also the lasting friendships and community fostered during their time at Langara.

Four exceptional alum from Langara’s Athletics program are being inducted into the Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Hall of Fame in 2025. This prestigious recognition honours those who have made significant contributions to collegiate athletics in Canada. This year’s class features three elite student athletes whose individual excellence helped elevate their teams and contributed to the sustained success of the Falcons program. Joining them is a coach who built on a strong foundation and transformed the men’s basketball program to national powerhouse status.

“It’s an extraordinary moment of pride for the Falcons program. Having four individuals inducted in the same class speaks to the lasting impact Langara has had on collegiate athletics at the national level. It’s a celebration not only of individual excellence, but of a culture of leadership, commitment, and sustained success. This rare milestone reinforces the legacy of the Falcons and the strength of our community—past, present, and future," says Jake McCallum, Director of Student Life and Athletics.

Kevin Hanson – Men’s Basketball (Coach category)

Kevin Hanson, known for his outstanding playing and coaching career in men’s basketball, is a transformative figure in the sport. He first donned a Falcons jersey as a player, leading his team to a national final appearance, before returning to guide the program as head coach. Under his leadership, the Falcons captured five BCCAA Provincial Championships and two CCAA National titles. He was named BCCAA Coach of the Year four times and CCAA National Coach of the Year twice.

“I’m absolutely thrilled to be inducted into the Hall of Fame. My time with the Falcons was an absolute incredible time in my life... It was a family, it was a community,” Hanson says.

His dedication to the student athletes and the relationships built during his coaching tenure are among his proudest achievements.

Louis Johnson – Men’s Basketball (Athlete category)

Louis Johnson’s lasting impact on men’s basketball endures. Playing in just three seasons, he ranks 9th all-time in points scored in PACWEST history. A two-time BCCAA Provincial Champion and BCCAA Player of the Year, Johnson also took home CCAA Player of the Year honours. He was a dynamic and electrifying talent; and nearly impossible to contain when he had the ball in his hands.

He had a natural instinct for finding the basket and an unmatched ability to take over games. One of the most prolific scorers in CCAA history, his offensive brilliance left a lasting mark on the Falcons program.

“It feels amazing. I’m overwhelmed and taken aback... It’s an honour to be going into the Hall of Fame and joining the likes of Theresa Hanson and Duncan McCallum, along with the others being inducted this year,” he shares.

For him, the relationships built during his time at Langara have been the most cherished memories.

Aaron Mitchell – Men’s Basketball (Athlete category)

Aaron Mitchell, a former men’s basketball standout, solidified his legacy by finishing 15th all-time in points scored in PACWEST history. A two-time BCCAA Provincial Champion and CCAA National Champion, Mitchell played a key role in one of the program’s most successful eras.

Known as the ultimate competitor, he elevated the level of play around him through his leadership and drive. With the ability to score from anywhere on the court, Mitchell competed at an elite, all-time level and is widely regarded as one of the best to ever wear a Falcons jersey and represent the CCAA.

“It’s super humbling and a huge honour to be selected. When you get involved in a sport like basketball, you don’t really think about the individual things. You think about the team and trying to have team success.” He emphasizes the importance of his teammates and the memories created, adding, “The bonds and memories are the things I’ll hold with me forever.”

She earned BCCAA Rookie of the Year honours in 2004–2005 and capped her collegiate career in 2006–2007 by being named both BCCAA Player of the Year and CCAA Player of the Year.

Pelat shares her emotions upon receiving the news of her induction: “I was in shock... it is a huge honour and it’s taken me some time to process.” She highlights the importance of the friendships formed during her time at Langara, saying, “My experience at Langara was one of the most pivotal times in my life—creating these relationships to last a lifetime.”
