Vancouver, BC – Studio 58 is thrilled to announce a new three year theatre production diploma program. The program, an expansion and redesign of the previous two year program, will begin in January 2022 and is currently accepting applications.
An extensive review of the program, which included surveys and focus groups with graduates, and consultation with instructors and industry professionals, has resulted in a training program that is cohesive, practical, and cutting-edge. Increased teaching hours in foundational courses will give students more time to develop and master conceptual and technical skills. This is especially pertinent given that technology in theatre, like any industry, is changing constantly. Students will have the chance to hone these skills as active members of the professional creative team on mainstage Studio 58 productions and by participating in work experience projects.
“The renewal and re-envisioning process for the Production Program at Studio 58 was a necessary step for the program to stay current and relevant in our industry,” says Instructor and Program Coordinator Yvan Morissette. “It offers students stronger opportunities for growth and specialization, through small class sizes and individualized support, mentorship, and practical experiences. The new structure will allow for the creativity and ingenuity of our students to reach even higher levels of success in their careers. I cannot wait for our first cohort of students to start this coming January and for our amazing faculty of industry professionals to partner on their learning journey.”
Graduates of Studio 58’s professional training programs go on to work for theatre companies across Canada and create their own projects and companies across the theatre, film, and television industries. The new program will facilitate more career opportunities and prepare highly skilled graduates for the ever-changing industry landscape.
The deadline to apply for entrance into January 2022 has been extended to August 18 and Studio 58 looks forward to meeting all applicants.
