Vancouver, BC – Langara food service provider Chartwells continued their support of Langara students at a ceremony on Thursday, December 7. Compass Group Canada, the parent company of Chartwells, contributed $25,000 to the College which will be used to create a new award for Langara’s Nutrition and Food Service Management program.

“As a food service provider, good food and nutrition is at the core of our business. We are thrilled to create an award that will support students who share our passion for food and community engagement,” said Mr. Robert Morelli, Regional Vice President, Chartwells Canada at Compass Group Canada Ltd.

The new Chartwells Community and Innovation Award will recognize and support student passion in food and nutrition management, while aligning with Chartwell’s mission of creating community and innovation. The award will be given to a student who is currently working and/or volunteering within the community, and balancing personal commitments while pursuing their diploma in Nutrition and Food Service Management.

“The Compass Group’s generosity in setting up this endowed award for our students is very much appreciated. We're excited for the opportunity to partner with Chartwell's and link their values and mission with actions our students undertake in the food service community,” said Laura Cullen, Interim Division Chair, Social Sciences.

“This award will impact, not only to the students who receive it, but also the community and individuals who are the recipients of our student’s dedication and passion for nutrition and food service and its role in maximizing quality of life,” added Monica Molag, Department Chair, Nutrition & Food Service Management.

Compass Group Canada is a long-standing partner of Langara College, providing much needed funds for student bursaries and awards since 1999. The group has established four awards (Compass Group Endowed Bursary, Chartwell Bursary, Chartwell Nursing Excellence Award, and the Chartwell Award of Excellence), each honouring academic success and assisting students in need.
