Mar 10, 2022

Today the Provincial Health Officer announced changes to the COVID-19 restrictions. As of Friday, March 11, the public health order requiring face coverings in low-risk indoor public spaces is repealed.

That means face coverings will be optional in all indoor public settings, including classrooms, recreation facilities, and common areas on Langara campuses.

We recognize this is an abrupt change and individuals may want to continue to wear a mask based on personal choice. We ask that everyone respect an individual’s choice when it comes to face coverings and physical distancing. Everyone will assess their own risk, and we ask that you show compassion and respect for the varying comfort levels of those around you.

The Provincial Health Officer also announced that on April 8, the requirement for proof of vaccination to access events and services will be removed. Dr. Bonnie Henry reminded us that vaccinations remain the primary layer of protection. We encourage all eligible people to get vaccinated, if and when you are able.

Since the beginning of the pandemic, Langara College has consistently followed the evidence-based advice, guidelines, and direction issued by the Provincial Health Officer, the BC Centre for Disease Control, and the provincial government to keep our community safe. We will continue to follow our Communicable Disease Plan going forward. There are measures we can all continue to take to ensure the safety and comfort of our community:

  • Get vaccinated
  • Sign-up for booster shots
  • Stay home if you are sick
  • Clean your hands regularly
  • Be kind and considerate of others

As always, your feedback and questions can be sent to us at returntocampus@langara.caOur updates for students can be found on our website here: https://langara.ca/health-safety
