The Langara Student Journal of History and Political Science (HiPo) is an academic journal written, edited, and published annually online by students.

Submissions are welcome from Langara students on topics relating to all aspects of History (including Classical Studies and Art History) and Political Science.

General guidelines

  1. All materials must be submitted to hipojournal [at] langara.ca (hipojournal[at]langara[dot]ca)
  2. Authors may submit a maximum of two papers for consideration from the applicable disciplines.
  3. A maximum of one paper per author will be published.
  4. For each paper submission, all of the following must be received by the deadline:
    1. The paper
    2. An abstract of the paper (maximum 150 words).
    3. An email sent by a Langara instructor attesting that the paper achieved a grade of at least a A-.

Paper Guidelines

  1. Papers must have been submitted to a Langara class in one of the three previous semesters (Spring, Summer, Fall 2024).  Previous Langara students' submissions are welcome so long as they follow this rule.
  2. The paper must not have been previously published or be under consideration at a journal when it is submitted.
  3. Papers must be submitted as MSWord documents (.doc or .docx) and must be 1,150-3500 words.
  4. Papers must be formatted according to Chicago Style, with a bibliography and sources cited as footnotes.
  5. The author is responsible for obtaining copyright permission for any images included with the paper.

All submission guidelines must be followed or papers will not be considered for publication.
