From summer 2025 to winter 2025/26, construction around our campus could impact your commute.

The City of Vancouver is upgrading critical sewer and water infrastructure and making transportation upgrades along W. 49th Avenue between Cambie and Fraser streets.

Access to Langara for students, employees, and visitors will be maintained at all times, but the construction will detour and/or slow traffic around campus. Plan ahead to give yourself enough travel time.

What’s happening now.

Disclaimer: While we will do our best to share the latest updates, information may change before our webpage is updated. Please follow the physical signage near campus and any instructions from crew members.

General impact.

  • Traffic
    • Access to our campus will be maintained at all times.
    • Ontario Street between 49th Avenue and 50th Avenue will be closed intermittently until further notice. Watch for detours as work progresses.
    • Local traffic only on 49th Avenue between Main Street and Cambie Street. Crews will implement lane reductions and block-by-block street closures as needed to carry out construction. Watch for detours as work progresses.
  • Parking
    • The T building entrance at Columbia Street is now back to functioning as both an entrance and exit, right in – right out:
      • Eastbound traffic can enter the campus from W. 49th Avenue and vehicles can exit the campus and proceed eastbound along W. 49th Avenue. Signage has been updated accordingly.
    • Temporary “no parking” restrictions are in effect in the area. Watch for signage.
  • Transit
    • The route 49 bus will detour to 41st Avenue between Cambie Street and Main Street between 8pm – 5:30am, seven days a week.
    • Some bus stops along 49th Avenue will be temporarily relocated or closed as work progresses. Keep an eye on the Translink website for further information.
  • Walking and cycling
    • Pedestrian and cycling detours are in effect with detour signage in place. Watch for signage, as access points may change.
