From summer 2025 to winter 2026, construction around our campus could impact your commute.

The City of Vancouver and TransLink are working together to improve bus service on 49th Avenue by extending bus lanes and improving bus stop spacing.

On 49th Avenue, more than 35,000 daily trips on bus routes 49 and 430 are affected by traffic delays. Route 49 is the third busiest bus route in the region and connects many neighbourhoods in the south of Vancouver, including Langara College.

The project aims to:

  • Help buses move smoothly through traffic and stay on time
  • Provide faster travel times and more reliable bus service
  • Improve transit access to destinations along Route 49 and 49th Avenue
  • Mitigate and balance impacts to parking and loading, where possible

What’s happening now

Latest updates: June 12, 2026

Disclaimer: While we will do our best to share the latest updates, information may change before our webpage is updated. Please follow the physical signage near campus and any instructions from crew members.

New: 49th Avenue transit improvements (Starting June 2026)

  • To support the city’s transportation network and improve bus service along 49th Ave, new bus priority lanes will be installed on West 49th Avenue between Cambie Street and Prince Edward Street.
  • The City will begin installing the planned bus lanes using interim signage and pavement markings in the coming weeks.
    • During installation, there will be no stopping anytime on 49th Avenue between Cambie Street and Fraser Street.
    • After the bus lanes are operational, on-street parking will not be permitted in this section from 7:00am to 7:00pm, Monday to Saturday (Signage will be installed).
    • Campus access will be maintained at all times, though short sections of the road may close briefly as crews repaint lane markings, working in stages over a few weeks.

  • Traffic: Access to our campus will be maintained at all times. Ontario Street between 49th Avenue and 50th Avenue may be closed intermittently until further notice. Watch for detours as work progresses.
  • Parking: Temporary “no parking” restrictions are in effect in the area. Watch for signage.
  • Transit: Some bus stops along 49th Avenue may be temporarily relocated or closed as work progresses. Keep an eye on the Translink website for further information.
  • Walking and cycling: Access will be retained, but detours may be in place. Watch for signage, as access points may change.

Stay informed.

We’re working with the City to communicate impacts to the Langara community – planned and unplanned – so you can be prepared. We’ll update this page as the project progresses. If there are significant, unexpected impacts, we’ll share them as soon as possible via social media and/or email.

This construction supports our growing neighbourhood – and a new bus priority lane along W. 49th Avenue will improve transit speed and reliability for your commute to campus. Thank you for your patience and understanding as the City makes these improvements.
