Orchestration

This course introduces the student to arranging music for the orchestra. Students will work with programs such as Reason¿s sampled orchestra to produce orchestrated music for a variety of scoring needs. Students will learn about the various instruments and sections that make up the typical orchestra. Physical placement of musicians in an orchestra and how to pan instruments in the computer to emulate the musician¿s placement will be covered along with a detailed exploration of the characteristics and limitations of orchestral instruments. This course is designed to relate to non-classically trained musicians and not be overly academic.

- Explore the various instruments that are used in an orchestra
- Demonstrate and understanding of orchestral sections
- Produce a fully orchestrated score
- Apply an orchestra score to a piece of film
