Applicant notes
- There is no admission test specific to this program, although as part of the admission to Langara, applicants may need to complete an English Placement test if they do not meet the English 12 application requirement or if they do not have previous post-secondary English.
- Recent volunteer or work experience in the school system with students with disabilities is required. Preference will be given to applicants who have 100 hours of recent volunteer experience with children with disabilities in school or related settings.
- A minimum of two recent letters are required certifying that the volunteer experience was successful and that 100 hours were completed. Please note, letters from relatives or friends are not acceptable.
- Demonstrated emotional maturity, independence, and an affinity for working with people is required. Assessed through a combination of consideration of the reference letters and the admission interview.
- Good knowledge of the English language and the ability to speak and write clearly and correctly.
An interview conducted by program faculty where your understanding of the roles and responsibilities of Education Assistants in a school setting and your familiarity with the current BC school system will be evaluated. - Admission is competitive; meeting the minimum requirements does not guarantee acceptance to the program.
- All students in the Education Assistant program must complete a Criminal Records Check prior to the first practicum. Practicum placement facilities require evidence of a satisfactory Criminal Records Check in order for program students to work with children/adolescents in the school system.
Admission to a program at Langara College does not guarantee registration in required courses. - Students admitted to this program may need to take one or more additional English courses in order to meet the prerequisite requirements of the English courses required in this program.
Program preferences
- Preference may be given to applicants with post-secondary studies with a minimum grade point average of 2.0.
