Applicant Notes
- The two letters of reference must be written and dated within one year of the application. One reference letter must indicate successful recent experience working with young children under the age of 6, preferably in a licensed group childcare setting and for at least 20 hours in duration. Babysitting experience alone is not adequate to meet this requirement. The second letter of reference can be a personal reference, written by an employer, teacher, or a nonrelative who can speak to the applicant’s character and suitability to work with vulnerable populations.
- Once acceptance has been offered to the applicant, an 8-hour Emergency Childcare with CPR First Aid Certificate from an approved first aid training program must be submitted to the early childhood education department. Approved first aid training programs are listed in Schedule C of the Community Care and Assisted Living Act under Child Care Licensing Regulations.
- All students in early childhood education programs in British Columbia must complete a Criminal Record Review prior to initial registration. Practicum agencies require evidence of a satisfactory Criminal Record Review. If an applicant has a criminal conviction, they are directed to contact the Criminal Records Review Program with the Ministry of Public Safety and Solicitor General Security Programs Division with regard to specific questions involving criminal convictions and the ability to register.
- Admission to a program does not guarantee registration into required courses.
Please refer to the program application dates on the Application Information page.
