Langara Film Arts Contest

Share your short film with us for a chance to win an Apple Watch or AirPods Pro! Send us your film (under 1 minute in length) illustrating the theme EcoUrban Odyssey: Designing, Capturing, and Reporting Sustainable Futures. Creative Arts Division “Explore, Report, Create” Contest Terms and Conditions

Prizes include one (1) Apple Series 9 Watch and one (1) AirPods Pro for each of the participating four programs. (Design Formation, Film Arts, Journalism, and Professional Photography) The approximate retail value of the Apple Watch is $525 and the AirPods Pro is $315. Prize winners (2 for each program) will be chosen by the Department Chair and the Domestic Recruitment Manager. Only high school students are eligible to enter this contest.
 
Participation in this contest constitutes your full and unconditional acceptance of, and agreement to be legally bound by, these contest rules. Correct answer to a skill-testing question required to win.
 
Those whose names are drawn (“Selected Entrants”) will be notified within five (5) business days of the contest entry judging. The Selected Entrant or parent/guardian will need to show valid photo ID.
 
The Prize Winners’ names will be published once the contest closes. By entering this contest, you are giving Langara College permission to collect and publish your name on the College’s owned media properties and social media, if you are selected.

 

1. ELIGIBILITY:
a) Must be currently enrolled at a high school in British Columbia
 
b) Only original work is eligible. Use of Generative AI must be disclosed.
 
2. HOW TO ENTER:
Contest Period: The Contest begins once published on the “Contest” page of the participating programs and closes on February 15, 2025 at 6:00pm.

 

During the Contest Period you must follow the below requirements, which constitute an “Entry”:
 
Create an original work (design, video, or photo) and submit it via email to recruitment@langara.ca with a descriptive paragraph, including your name, email address, high school name, and phone number.
 
Entering the contest constitutes agreement with these terms and conditions. There is a limit of one entry per person. Only one prize will be awarded per Entry. Multiple entries by the same Entrant using different email addresses shall result in disqualification.

 

3. WINNER SELECTION:
 a) A panel consisting of the Department Chair and the Domestic Recruitment Manager will review all entries for each program and will choose a winner and a runner up. The eligibility of the Selected Entrants will be confirmed. If the entry is not eligible, the next selected entry will be considered until both Selected Entrants fit the eligibility requirements (1. Eligibility). Odds of winning are dependent upon the number of eligible entries received.
 
b) The Selected Entrants will be notified by phone or email and will be required to respond within three (3) business days of notification. The Selected Entrants are required to demonstrate that they have complied with all the Creative Arts Division “Explore, Report, Create” Contest Terms and Conditions.
 
c) Neither Langara College nor its affiliates will be responsible for the failure of selected Entrants not being able to receive notification or respond as prescribed above.

 

4. PRIZES:
Prizes must be accepted as awarded and cannot be transferred, substituted or redeemed for cash. Langara College or its affiliates reserve the right, in their sole discretion, to substitute any and all of the prizes for prizes of equal or greater value should all or part of a prize become unavailable for any reason. Langara disclaims all liability and provides no warranties with respect to the prizes awarded in respect of this contest and winners acknowledge that prizes must be accepted as awarded.
 
5. PRIZE REDEMPTION:
Selected Entrants will be invited to collect their prize from the Academic Deans Office. In order to collect the prize, the student must bring their valid photo ID.

 

6. GENERAL CONDITIONS:
a) All entries become property of Langara College and there will be no further correspondence except with selected Entrants.
 
b) Any attempt to deliberately undermine the legitimate operation of this Contest is a violation of criminal and civil laws and, should such an attempt be made, Langara College reserves the right to seek remedies and damages to the fullest extent permitted by law, including criminal prosecution.
 
c) Entries are subject to verification and will be declared invalid if they do not comply with the Contest Rules and are illegible, incomplete, forged, falsified, altered or tampered with in any way.

 

7. LIMITATION OF LIABILITY:
Langara College and contest administrators assume no liability or responsibility for any personal injury or property damage as a result of the Winner’s collection of the prizes as part of this Contest. Langara College is not responsible for any technical malfunctions or human errors that may occur in the processing of the Contest. Langara College assumes no responsibility for any unauthorized access or alteration of Entries.
 
8. PRIVACY:
By entering the contest online, Entrant(s) agree to Langara College’s use of Entrant(s) personal information as described in Langara College’s Privacy Statement at: https://langara.ca/about-langara/records-management-and-privacy/privacy/privacy-statement.html
 
9. LAWS:
These are the official Contest Rules. This Contest is subject to all federal, provincial and municipal laws and regulations. These Contest Rules are subject to change without notice in order to comply with any applicable federal, provincial and municipal laws or the policy of any other entity having jurisdiction over Langara College.
 
10. TERMINATION:
Langara College reserves the right to amend or terminate all or any portion of this Contest at any time for any reason without prior notice.
